Banana for Scale

Privacy Policy

Banana for Scale is an iPhone app that measures things in bananas. It does not collect, store or share any personal data. This policy explains what the app does with your camera and photos.

Effective 18 October 2026. Published by Michael Spragg (Building & Exploring).

The short version

  • No account, no sign-in, and no personal information requested.
  • No analytics, advertising, tracking or third-party SDKs.
  • The app makes no network requests. Nothing you do in it is sent to us or anyone else.
  • Photos are saved to your library only when you tap Capture Photo, and shared only when you tap Share.

Camera and augmented reality

Banana for Scale uses your iPhone camera and Apple's ARKit to detect surfaces, measure distances and place a life-size banana in the scene. The camera feed, detected surfaces and measurements are processed on your device in real time and are not recorded, stored or transmitted by the app.

iOS asks for camera permission the first time you open the app. You can change it at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera. The app cannot measure without camera access.

Photos

When you tap Capture Photo, the app creates an image of your measurement or comparison and asks to add it to your photo library. It requests add-only access, so it can save new images but cannot see, read or change anything already in your library.

If you tap Share, the image goes to the app or person you pick in the iOS share sheet. That transfer is handled by iOS and the app you choose, under their own privacy terms.

You can change photo access at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos.

Data we collect

None. We do not collect, store, sell or share personal data, usage data, device identifiers, location or diagnostics from the app. Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing to access, export or delete.

Apple may give developers aggregated, anonymous App Store and crash statistics for users who have opted in to share them with developers in iOS settings. That is governed by Apple's privacy policy, and we cannot use it to identify you.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages and collects no information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If the app ever starts handling data differently, this page will be updated before that version is released and the effective date above will change.
